I am on the Architectual Control Committee for Summercrest neighborhood. One of our homeowner’s is installing a hot tub and attaching patio cover to his home over the hot tub. I know he needs permits for both. Is he required to use a licensed electrician to install the electrical power to hot tub, or can he do it himself as long as it meets code? Will he have to submit a building plan including the electrical work when requesting the permit?

The homeowner can do the electrical work themselves as long as this is their primary homestead, otherwise they will need to hire a licensed electrician. They also have to submit an electrical plan with the patio cover and hot tub application.
